The Wingnuts celebrated pitching coach Luke Robertson's 30th birthday with their 30th win of the season, a 4-2 decision over the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Sioux City did all their damage in the top of the first, getting an RBI single from Landon Camp and an RBI double from Justin Nelson. After that is was all Wingnuts, led by Derek Blacksher who went seven strong innings. The Wingnuts quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Greg Porter, followed by a solo home run by Dustan Mohr, his seventh of the season. In the third, Josh Horn walked with two outs and stole second. Porter singled him home to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. Porter knocked in another run with a single in the fifth to finish 2-3, with a walk and three RBI. Doug Hurn pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Richard Salazar had an easy ninth to pick up his second save. The Wingnuts, who have already clinched the North Division first half title, are a perfect 8-0 against Sioux City this season and have now won a franchise-best nine games in a row. The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will play host to the winless Alaska Wild (0-12) on Thursday July 2nd. For playoff-bound Wichita (7-6), this will be their final game of the regular season for 2009. Wichita successfully clinched the Central Division's third and final playoff spot on June 27th with a 73-33 blowout win over the RiverCity Rage. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Hartman Arena and doors will open at 6:00 PM. Quarterback Dixie Wooten is fresh off his debut for Wichita and he did not disappoint. In the contest, Wooten passed for 171 yards and a Wild franchise record seven touchdowns through the air. Wide receiver Clinton Solomon managed to be on the receiving end of five of those Wooten touchdown passes, bringing his touchdown total to 20 on the season. The Indoor Football League (IFL) announced on Wednesday that Wild running back Darius Fudge has been named IFL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14. Fudge set a new IFL record by rushing for five touchdowns in Wichita?s 39-37 victory over the Omaha Beef. The win put Wichita one victory away from clinching the franchise?s first ever playoff berth. In addition to the five touchdowns, Fudge ran for 98 yards in the game to bring his league leading total to 774. Fudge is looking to be the first running back in indoor football since 2005 to rush for over 900 yards in a season. Fudge also leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 23. Fudge is the fifth Wild player to be recognized as Player of the Week this season.
